Weston Gateway

A new gateway to work in
Weston Gateway is Shropshire’s opportunity to bring high-quality jobs to the county, and to the people who will live at Weston. It is planned as a new centre for employment, skills and training, with the potential to support around 8,000 jobs across a range of sectors and occupations.
Too many people leave Shropshire to build their careers in Birmingham, the Black Country or further afield, because the higher-skilled jobs they need are hard to find at home. Weston Gateway is a chance to change that. Based on regional patterns in the sector, around two in five of the roles could be in skilled trades, technical, professional and managerial positions. Nationally, median pay in industrial and logistics is around £35,500, about £4,000 above the all-sector median, and every 10 jobs in these buildings support around 9 or 10 more in the wider supply chain.
Weston Gateway is planned as part of the same place as the homes around it, so people can live and work in the same community. Employment, training and skills will work as one continuous pathway, helping local people build careers closer to home and helping local businesses find the workforce they need to grow. This supports Shropshire’s own Economic Growth Strategy and its ambition to retain local talent.
The detail of what Weston Gateway looks like, and how it works alongside existing training and education providers across the region, is something we want to shape together with stakeholders and the community.
